My current Prada wallet has served me well since 2006 but it's getting on a bit, and I think it's time for a new one. My plan was to go to Prada and buy the same wallet in a different colour (that was what I did last time!). To my disappointment Prada does not make that particular wallet anymore, so I am on the lookout for a new design.
My requirements are:
- Compact - I'm not a fan of continental wallets
- Has at least 6 card slots
- A separate coin compartment
Out of loyalty I went to Prada first but nothing took my fancy.
I have a red LV Epi Speedy and I love the colour and the leather, and the Joey wallet looked good on the LV website.
However it didn't look as good in person. It was bulky even when it was empty, the leather felt a bit too stiff for a wallet, and the clasp was a hassle to me - I want the wallet to be easy to use.
The Gucci flap French wallet fits all my requirements. However I'm not sold on the type of leather or the colour, and I feel a bit too old to have a heart on my wallet :-/
Finally I found a worthy candidate from Chanel - a Camellia-embossed lambskin wallet (top left in the photo below).
Here's a better look of the lambskin (in a different style). The leather is SO smooth.
I like that the coin section is completely separated from the cards section and can be easily accessed.
I wasn't planning on getting a black wallet but I'm not closed to the idea (the wallet also comes in a dusty pink which I don't like). I want to look around a bit more but the Chanel is defnitely on my shortlist. I'm really looking forward to getting one when I'm in Hong Kong.
Oh yes, I will be going to Hong Kong for a family gathering later this month. Hello shopping with the strong Australian dollar :-D
Update 3/8/2011: Adding another wallet to the mix - love the colour of the Miu Miu. I need to check it out in person :-D
Update 2: So I went down to the Miu Miu store at Westfields to have a look. The wallet above is just a tag too long but I quite like this one:
I may even get the matching keyholder!
Update 5 Sept 2011: You can read about my final choice here.
